For over 20 years (since my early teen years) I’ve taken great care in selecting quality products for facial skincare. I’ve had problem skin since my pre-teens but have been able to keep it in check with the right products. I always look for products with scientifically proven to work ingredients with no added fillers like fragrance or colorants. I’ve used retinols and AHA and BHAs in the past (or currently) but have never tried a Glycolic Acid Peel. When I heard about Perfect Image’s Glycolic Acid Peels I was very interested!

glycolic peelRather than going to a doctor’s office or med spa, I could get the same treatment at home with a Perfect Image Glycolic Gel Peel at a very affordable price. They come in several formulations from a daily use 10% to a medical grade 70%. For just $29.95 you’ll get a 30 ML bottle that contains 15-30 peel applications! Average use is 1-2 ML per treatment.

Peels are one of the most effective ways to get better skin. Perfect Image has made a product that is specially formulated with gentle acids and other pure ingredients to clarify the skin by removing dead surface layers and allowing skin to heal and renew itself from the inside out. Typically, to get an effective peel you must go to a doctor’s office or med spa in order to receive a peel that is strong enough for the best results. Due to COVID, that is sometimes no longer an option. Some skincare companies offer peels in a pad form with low concentrations of the active ingredients and high PH levels that essentially render the formulas less effective. This method of applying the peels is not the same as it would be at a doctor’s office or med spa. Perfect Image is one of the first companies to develop a product formulated by a chemist to deliver custom peels right to your door that offer the same effectiveness as in-office peels at a very affordable price! Perfect Image has a lower PH range from 2-2.5pH. to keep the integrity of the active ingredients.

I got the 50% concentrations which is the highest you can get without being a professional. I have to admit I was a little nervous to give this a try because I knew it was going to be strong and effective! I read the directions over and over again and I did a test area on my jawline before going for the full facial treatment. The nice thing is that if you have questions you can chat online with a licensed aesthetician, send pictures, and get advice on the best strength suited to your skin and how to use it properly.

Perfect Image products come in a liquid gel form in a “tincture” bottle and are left on the face for a maximum of 1 minute if it’s your first treatment. After that you can slowing increase contact time on the skin or use a layering technique on future treatments. Layering can be as effective as a peel in a treatment center. Layers refer to how many times you wipe the peel over the same area in a single treatment. You need to be very careful in the application method, especially your first time. With each wipe the peel intensifies and penetrates the skin a little deeper until it is neutralized or reaches a certain depth based on pH and skin type. It is important to not try layering until you are comfortable with peels or have more experience. Once you’ve used the peel several times without complications you can trying layering based on your skin’s tolerance.

I was careful with my first application but it is very easy to accidentally layer as you can see here! I applied with a cotton ball and started on my left cheek. I accidentally went over this area twice.

I sent a time on my phone for one minute. Since I started on my left side that side got a little bit longer exposure as well. You neutralize the solution by rinsing with cool water. Right away I could tell it was working. I was a little worried since that one area immediately turned red but I neutralized it quickly and applied my favorite moisturizer that works miracles on dry skin. The photo above is how my cheek looked the next morning. It didn’t hurt or sting, it was just red and slightly dry.

The day after that it was a lot less red but a little more dry and flaky as expected. I was really impressed with how effective this product is and can’t wait to use it again, especially now that I know what to expect. My skin tolorated the 50% formula well and I love that I can take it up a notch when I am ready by layering or leaving the product on a little longer. If you haven’t used this type of product before or have more sensitive skin I wouldn’t recommend going straight for the 50% formula. You might want to start with a lower concentration like the 10% or 30%.

You can use this product on the face, shoulders, decollete and tops of your hands. I’ll definitely be using this on my shoulders. I did a test patch when I tested on my face and my shoulders seem to have a higher tolerance. You do need to be very careful about the products you are using a few days before as well as a few days after using Perfect Image Glycolic Peel and be sure to use a good sunscreen!
